war tactics

Existing either intrinsically or explicitly in the heart or mind of any great general, war tactics are the skillful abilities of a battle leader to maneuver his troops and force decisive action in attempts to outwit and defeat the other combatants. War tactics have changed with time, embodying the most recent philosophies in combat, from Sun Tzu to Napoleon, and beyond. Even technology has changed the face of war, with certain tactics becoming obsolete and others becoming required, such as trench warfare or the necessities of cover. War tactics themselves have changed, from being at the forefront of a military mind, to simply handling day to day concerns. The most recent iteration of military planning denotes war tactics as the bottom of a three part pyramid. War tactics are responsible for the battle to battle-or mission to mission-placement, troop deployment and movement. War tactics can best be described as how a battle is won. The middle level exists to transfer orders between the top and bottom, making sure the tactics used coincide with the strategy. The strategy is the large scale game plan, wherein the war itself is won, and serves to coordinate the individual battles to create a success over time. War tactics have evolved over the ages to include a variety of means to the same end, incorporating exercises with planning and troop instructions, and branching out to further increasing levels of complexity. War tactics can no longer be said to be simply science, but also a form of highly skilled art. Some tacticians employ successful strategies instinctively and others have such abilities drilled into them over years at a school designed for warfare, this further heightens the dynamics of war tactics between art and science. War tactics are, at the core, a simple means to kill other human beings, and can be only be further complicated. The methods behind many tactics have not changed much over the span of human combat, physical exercises-or drills-have been employed to assist in forcing action out of troops as an automatic response to battle, the use of ambushes or the dark is still consistently used as well. Flanking is another of many war tactics still being successfully used to this day, along with the use of terrain to seek advantage. Even reconnaissance has made it's way from ancient warfare into the present day, with modern recon agents being spy planes instead of lightly armed and armored foot soldiers.
